This judgement call is very important at three different stages of the game. Once your starting hand is dealt you have to decide if the two cards are either strong enough, or have the potential to be developed from the flop. Secondly, judge what the flop has done to your hand. If it has improved it, you may want to bet into the pot to try and make the most of your cards. Finally, you have to consider once you get to the river card what your position is going into the showdown. If you are still confident at this stage, you can bet again. If not, just go with a call and hope your opponent does not beat your hand.

Generally anything above a high pair is usually good enough in a heads up situation. If you are lucky enough to develop a premium hand, you need to try and make it count by building up the pot as much as you can.

Like all forms of poker, it is about getting your chips in when you are ahead and reducing your losses when you are in second.
